First American Empires - Wari and Tiwanaku

Wari and Tiwanaku began in the high Andes, then expanded into fertile coastal valleys to provision their growing realms.

Tiwanaku's influence spread 500 miles south along caravan routes, while the Wari advances almost twice as far, building roads and irrigation canals along the way.

Both empires influenced the Inca, as did the powerful Chimu, who dominated the northern coast of Peru.
