The Bradshaw Foundation is delighted to welcome Genevieve von Petzinger to its Advisory Board.

Genevieve is a Canadian paleoanthropologist and rock art researcher finishing up her doctorate at the University of Victoria. She studies Paleolithic cave art created by early humans in Europe between 10,000 and 40,000 years ago.  Genevieve's specific focus is on the geometric signs found at many of these sites, and she's interested in how these images can help us to better understand human cognitive evolution as well as track ancient patterns of migration and explore the origins of symbolism and graphic communication.  

Genevieve is also an enthusiastic proponent of science communication, and her work has appeared in numerous print, radio, television and web-based features, including popular science magazines such as New Scientist.  In 2011 she was selected as a TED Global Fellow, then as a 2013-2015 TED Senior Fellow, and her November 2015 TED talk "Why Are These 32 Symbols Found in Ancient Caves All Over Europe?" has been well-received around the world.  Genevieve has a book coming out about her research in May 2016, entitled, "The First Signs: Unlocking the Mysteries of the World's Oldest Symbols".
