Based on the recent expedition to South Africa, the Bradshaw Foundation presents the latest film in the iLecture Series:

'SAN ROCK ART OF SOUTH AFRICA'

The Drakensberg Mountains of southern Africa are home to not only some of the world's oldest rock art paintings, but also one of the world's oldest cultures - the San Bushman. The fascinating relationship between the people and their art is revealed as one of the most famous rock art panels is decoded.

This is our latest film in the iLecture Series, using the material we gathered from our expedition to the Drakensberg Mountains in South Africa, under the guidance of Dr Ben Smith. The film is meant to be an introduction to African rock art, based on the work of Professor David Lewis-Williams, the afore-mentioned Dr Ben Smith, Dr Geoff Blundell and all the researchers at the Rock Art Research Institute at Johannesburg in South Africa.

'SAN ROCK ART OF SOUTH AFRICA'

In this film we present an interpretation of the paintings, by relating them directly to their creators - the San - in terms of concepts that pervade their cognitive systems. This interpretation is based on historical accounts.

'SAN ROCK ART OF SOUTH AFRICA'

Forthcoming films of African rock art will include 'Rainmaking and San rock art', 'San art and spirit journeys', 'The rock art of the Khoekhoen', 'Northern Sotho initiation rock art' and 'Northern Sotho historical protest rock art'.

Hope you enjoy it.
