The Tuareg of the Sahara |
View the updated section on the Tuareg of the Sahara - the present custodians of the world's largest Palaeolithic petroglyphs. With their help, the ancient rock art of the Sahara, both paintings and engravings, are being preserved.
Learn more about the Bradshaw Foundation preservation project to to take a mould of the world's largest Palaeolithic rock carving located in the Tenere Desert in the heart of the Sahara, carried out with the support and assistance of the Tuareg.
Follow the course of the preservation project, from the remote desert outcrop in the Sahara to the foundry in France, and back to the dusty streets of Agadez. And in the process, how the spirit of the Tuareg revealed itself.
This new section endeavours to throw light on their origin, their society and customs, and their survival throughout history in an environment that is challenging, both physically and politically, as they help preserve the life-size giraffe carvings of Dabous in Niger.
