Innocence

HEIGHT 4FT (1.2M) POLISHED BRONZE 1988

The joy of sculpting children comes from seeing their Innocence. How was I to try and capture this sense of purity, their joy and lightness?

I found the answer to this question when I came across Hogarth's diagram of `The Analysis of Beauty', in which he shows that the line of Grace is represented by a fine wire, properly twisted around the figure of a cone. He then goes on to say "yet there is but one precise line, properly to be called the line of beauty...number 4". For me Beauty and Innocence go hand in hand.
