Martin Barco, author & photographer in Peru, has notified the Bradshaw Foundation of the recent Congress approval declaring the protection, research, enhancement, dissemination and promotion of the archaeological and petroglyph site of Checta in light of national interest, as announced on comunicaciones.congreso.gob.pe

The Plenary of the Congress of the Republic approved by majority the opinion of the bill that declares of national interest the protection, research, enhancement, dissemination and promotion of the archaeological site petroglyphs of Checta in the district of Santa Rosa de Quives, province of Canta, department of Lima.

In 2007 Martín Barco documented these petroglyphs in his publication 'Checta: Broken Stone, Cracked Firewood'.

The legislative initiative is based on Bill 2621/2021. It received 96 votes in favour, 1 vote against and zero abstentions. It was excused from a second vote.

The head of the Commission of Culture and Cultural Heritage, Héctor Acuña Peralta (UyDP), said that "in the archaeological site of Checta a rudimentary attempt at writing is being made."

In it, he continued, "human manifestations are observed through the use of ideographic writing, (which) is embodied through pictographs, pictograms or petroglyphs, whose design through strokes manifests an ideological effort of a hieroglyphic writing of a rudimentary nature."

El Pleno del Congreso de la República aprobó por mayoría el dictamen del proyecto de ley que declara de interés nacional la protección, investigación, puesta en valor, difusión y promoción del sitio arqueológico petroglifos de Checta en el distrito de Santa Rosa de Quives, provincia de Canta, departamento de Lima.

La iniciativa legislativa se sustenta en el Proyecto de Ley 2621/2021. Obtuvo 96 votos a favor, 1 voto en contra y cero abstenciones. Fue exonerada de segunda votación.

El titular de la Comisión de Cultura y Patrimonio Cultural, Héctor Acuña Peralta (UyDP), sostuvo que “en el sitio arqueológico de Checta se realiza un intento rudimentario de escritura."

En él, continuó, se observan “manifestaciones humanas a través del empleo de la escritura ideográfica, (que) se plasma mediante la pictografía, pictograma o petroglifo, cuyo diseño a través de trazos manifiestan un esfuerzo ideológico de una escritura jeroglífica de carácter rudimentario."
